Cape Horn Coffees, Inc. (“CHC”) is an importer and wholesaler of green (unroasted) and decaffeinated coffee serving North America. We trade all coffee origins, with a primary focus on Brazil and Central America.
CHC’s principals come from diverse backgrounds across the coffee value chain, including farming, roasting, warehousing, banking, and risk management. This breadth of experience gives us a deeper understanding of the challenges roasting companies face, extending far beyond procurement and logistics.
We take a holistic view of each client’s business, aligning sourcing, logistics, and financial solutions to support efficient, sustainable wholesale coffee procurement—from farm to the roaster’s plant door.
About Cape Horn Coffees, Inc.
History
CHC was founded in 1995 by Paul Leighton after 15 years co-owning and operating The Coffee Corner, a successful specialty roaster in Eugene, Oregon. Drawing on firsthand roasting experience, Paul began supplying green coffee to other roasters in the Pacific Northwest, forming the foundation of Cape Horn Coffees. A professional French horn player, Paul inspired the company’s name and logo.
In 2016, Daniel Neves and Mark Williams acquired a majority stake in CHC, marking the company’s second generation of ownership. CHC relocated from Eugene to Denver, Colorado, and acquired Sinay Neves Enterprises in 2020, a specialty green coffee merchant focused on coffees produced on the Neves family farm in Bahia, Brazil.

A new chapter
In 2024, Curtis Ball became a partner, and CHC sold a 51% majority stake to Walter Matter SA, joining the Walter Matter Group. This partnership strengthened CHC’s balance sheet and expanded access to a top-tier global supply network, enhancing our ability to deliver consistent, high-quality coffee from all origins. Today, through the Walter Matter Group, CHC enjoys origin representative offices in Ethiopia, Brazil, and Vietnam.

SELECTION
& SOURCING
For over 30 years, CHC has sourced coffees from over 30 origins. Our process begins with the customer. We focus on understanding each roaster’s operations, roasting profiles, and end markets before considering any origins, processing, or grades.
LOGISTICS
CHC manages domestic and international coffee logistics, coordinating documentation, freight, and delivery from origin to North American warehouses and even directly to the customer’s plant.
RISK MANAGEMENT
& FINANCIAL SERVICES
CHC reduces operational and financial complexity for roasters. In addition to sourcing, we can act as a “bank and a boat,” importing and financing coffees sourced directly by our customers.
